From 2011-13, I was a Research Associate at MIRI, helping them achieve a "miracle year" in which we published more peer-reviewed articles than in all previous years combined. I also published the first-ever article on FAI in a pop science magazine, built connections with academia and tech leaders, and gave lectures, including one of the first on the topic in a university course.
